Creating a new look for a child's bathroom can be challenging. While there are many different pre-made themes and accessories available, they all tend to look the same.

If you want to create a truly unique bathroom for your children, try painting a wall mural.

A wall mural will not only add visual interest, but it is a great way to make the room reflect your child instead of commercial interests and themes. The three ideas below will get you started thinking about the different possibilities for mural painting in the kids' bathroom.

Rain Forest

A rain forest theme is a great way to incorporate children's love for animals, adventure and mystery all in one. Remember to prime and paint the wall a neutral white before starting the project. Use a mold and mildew resistant paint for best results, as the bathroom area is excessively humid. Sketch out a large rain forest mural on one wall in the bathroom. If you are confident in your artistic abilities, choosing the largest wall in the bathroom is the best way to make a strong impact.

If you are more hesitant about your artistic skills, try painting a smaller wall and accenting areas around the door and window frames, the medicine cabinet and even where the toilet tank lid abuts the wall. Small accents of butterflies, foliage or a slow moving sloth will all help add to the room's ambiance. A rain forest theme is an especially good idea if you are working around outdated green tiles, as the green works perfectly with the theme.

Kids

While painting realistic images of children in the bathroom might be beyond your skill level, painting shape children in the room is probably going to be doable. Use triangles for bodies, circles for heads, and lines for arms and legs. Curly lines or short spikes can be the hairdos. A mural of colorful, whimsical children instantly identifies the space as the children's bathroom and adds a sense of fun. You can opt to use just one wall for the mural, or place the children around the room for a bolder design. A fun idea is to paint a swing with a child sitting on it hanging from the ceiling. This idea may need some practice, so be sure to sketch it out on drawing paper before attempting it on the bathroom walls.

Puppy Dog Eyes

This easy idea involves one entire wall and relies only on drawing the faces of the animals. Use different color paints, add spots and change up the shape of the dogs' ears for added variety. Kids will love this fun and whimsical mural that will provide both color and smiles. With a variety of different colors being used in the dog faces and collars, it will be easy to match the mural to the existing fixtures and towels in the bathroom.

Painting a mural in a children's bathroom is a great way to celebrate your children's interests and ideas. Make the shape children wear your child's favorite color, create a dog face that looks like the family dog, or hide a poison dart frog picture among the leaves and branches of the rain forest!
