Our exterior 9 light door has a drippy sticky white goo dripping from the molding that holds the window in place. It looks bad. I would like to remove the drips and repaint the door but so far, nothing I’ve tried will remove the glue or what ever it is. This has happened on three doors we have. What causes it?

It typically is resin (colored with your paint) seeping from the improperly prepared wood surface… scrape off as much as possible, then prime the area using an exterior oil primer-stain blocker, use 2 coats if necessary… (recommend Zinsser Cover Stain, avail at Home Depot… or Kilz interior/exterior Oil Stain Block Primer)… then touch up with your finish coat exterior paint…

I think it is a chalking that leaks out over time. I have the problem, it gets on the glass. I take a razor blade and cut it off. Be careful. It just keeps coming out so you have to do it periodically or replace doors which is expensive.
