New ceiling paint peeling.

Charleen Budde asked 10 years ago

We are fixing up a house and textured the ceiling then painted it. The texture was left to dry for several weeks before painting. Several days after painting, we are seeing that the paint has begun to peel in several areas…and are about 4″ X 4″ in size. What could have caused this? And how do we fix it?

You say you "Textured It" … what did you use? Probably plaster, or a typical plaster of paris compound? If so you would have needed to PRIME that using a Pigmented Shellac Sealer Primer… or using an oil base primer…

What grade finish paint are you using? Cheap paint or paint that YOU think is good? Use Sherwin Williams Classic-99 Latex…

To remedie your situation: scrape down all the peeled paint, use steel wool if necessary, until you get a firm edge(s)… then prime the ENTIRE ceiling using a 3/4 inch nap roller cover, with Pigmented Shellac… then finish coat with SW Classic-99 Latex… Good Luck!
