Painting lines on a new popcorn like wall?

I have a home that was built in 2006 and now days they are using the popcorn style wall, that is what I call it. I just recently painted my newest daughter’s room pink with brown horizontal lines. With this style of wall even using tape I still had the paint mix and match in the deeper spots on the wall. Is there a way to paint on this surface without getting that look and get a nice crisp straight line?

Well you could scrape the wall down and then sand it to get a smooth finish but other then that no. The roughness of the wall will keep being a factor to you here. Good Luck

Try Frog Tape. This is a bit different than other types of masking tape.

I like to use painters caulk and tape. Its a trick a painter taught me. Apply a small bead on the side to be painted and wipe it smooth against the tape with your finger. This will block paint bleed through while you paint. Smooth your paint out on the line and let it tack up for a half an hour or so but don't let it dry all the way. Pull your tape and the caulk and paint line should be sharp as a razor. Do one wall at a time so the caulk doesn't seal the tape to the wall. This works well on heavy orange peel and knock down textures.
