After removing wallpaper the corner bead is exposed in some areas. How do I prep that for painting? I tried applying joint compound. It didn’t stick very well & some of it came off when I sanded it.

Prime the exposed corner bead with a quick drying oil based primer. Kilz Oil Base works well. You could use the spray can instead of brushing. This will help the joint compound stick. Also, I like to use the setting type of joint compound for this repair. It is a powder and requires mixing, but sticks very well and dries fast.
