I am having new doors made. I’m in the processing of cleaning up the bases. I had sanded an area where it was water stained. I tried putting stain on and it did not take. Any ideas?

Can't answer this without knowing what the substraight is that you are trying to stain… you cannot stain over paint, or any prestained and varnished surface… sanding will not suffice… try using a Paint & Varnish Remover…
