Using house stain on porous ceramic tile?

I was away when the contractor put down my new tiles. The color variation is huge-not what I expected. It’s floor tile and quite porous. Can I use a dark stain to darken the tile? Will the stain soak in and be permanent? I don’t want to paint it, just darken it.

Use a masonry or concrete stain, available at many paint stores. It will look better and last way longer than a wood stain. Plus many masonry/concrete sealer are available to seal up the new look and make it all last for many years.
