Which primer do I use?

I have used Benjamin Moore ADVANCE waterborne interior waterborne alkyd paint on a wooden chair. I need to prime over this as to be able to silver leaf. Do I use an oil or can I use a waterbased primer before starting the leaf project. I can use oil or water products for the silver leaf.

If you state that you can use oil or water products for the silver leaf, then why are you asking which to use? It's your choice…

Use an oil base primer. Make sure to lightly sand the paint before priming. This will give you the best results.
