Painting after Staining?
by Mark
Bought 2 pre-hung doors and stained them with Minwax. Easy job, but now the wife wants to paint over the stain. Can this be done with regular latex interior paint? Answer Yes, it is quite easy to paint over stained wood. The main part is using a good primer before painting. I like oil based primers, but good stain blocking acrylic primer will work as well. Good primers that I have used are Zinsser Cover Stain (oil base), Zinsser 1-2-3 (acrylic), Kilz Original Oil Base and Kilz 2 (acrylic). Any one of these primers will work great and all of them can be top coated with latex or acrylic interior paint.
