I’m thinking of painting my interior staircase handrail with semi-gloss paint. I was wondering what and if I can put a sealer of some type over the paint to protect it? Thanks

Is it currently, a stained and varnished, OR natural wood (unfinished) hand rail? In any case you should first prime it with an oil base interior wood primer (try Kilz) … then finish coat with a High Grade Semi Gloss Paint (use Sherwin Williams Classic-99 Semi) … then if you desire further protection, you could give it a coat of clear oil base varnish, or just use a regular spray furniture polish applied with a rag (try Pledge)…
