Staining a painted interior wall.

Delores asked 10 years ago

A new house had the interior walls stained in a oil based stain. I think the stain was applied then rubbed off. It was a nice finish can you tell me how it was done?

One way to do this finish is to use a tinted glaze instead of a oil base stain. The glaze would be easier to use and offer more control. An acrylic glaze will be easy to work with and you could mix a little acrylic paint into it for the color.

The easiest way to apply is either with a wide brush or roller to sections then remove (rub off) the excess with rags. Instead of rubbing try a dabbing motion. It depends on the look that you want. You should experiment and practice first before doing an entire room.
