Tung oil refinishing.

Don Adamczyk asked 10 years ago

About 15 years ago I replaced my interior doors with pine 6 panel doors. I finished them with Tung oil and they came out beautiful.

After 15 years I think I need to refinish them. There are a few scratches and gouges I would like to get rid of. What should I use to prep the doors and clean them before I put another coat of Tung oil on them? How should I treat the scratches and gouges? Can I re-coat them while they are still hung in place? What should I use to apply the Tung oil?
Thanks

Clean the area with a MILD solution of TSP available at your local paint dealer.

I would not suggest getting rid of the scratches and gouges as we are in the market of people asking us to give them this type finish on NEW doors. Re-coat the doors where they are and use clean wiping cloths available at your local paint dealer. My experience suggests finding the cloths will be easier than finding the Tung oil.
