How can I be sure my pool patio is painted with a xylene paint? What are the tests? What are the tests for other paints? What other paint can I use over Xylene? If that’s what is on there now. For health reasons I will not use a xylene paint.
There isn't a definite test to tell if you have a xylene based paint or not. The best way is to look at the original paint cans. These will tell you everything you need to know. Another way is if you have the name of the original sales slip or manufacture and product name.
I don't blame you for not wanting to use such a strong solvent based paint. If this is an actual chlorinated pool paint you might have to use the same thing again. I don't feel comfortable making any recommendations for a new coating without knowing the exact manufacture and product that was used. There is far to many products of the market.
