100% silicone caulking is an incredible performer. It will outlast many standard types of caulking and hold up to any abuse. Typically has the best elongation characteristics and capable of adhering to any surface. Plus, is resistant to all chemicals and can be used immersed in water.
It's not suitable for all areas. Best used on areas that will never be painted.
Or any pre-finished materials that will never need painting. Best used on non-porous surfaces like metal, glazed tile or glass. This caulking is available in many colors to match almost any surface.
Pure silicone sealants cannot be painted. No paint or primer can fully adhere to this caulking. After applied, the paint will bead off and peel when dry. If you have this happening, complete removal of the caulking needs to be done. You might have to remove a small amount of the surface and apply a high quality primer before recaulking the area.
These are just a few areas that I run into from time to time. Since paint or primer won't stick to silicone it is best to avoid it's use.
