Dark Outside Paint Color

Sheri Steele asked 10 years ago

Should I paint the outside of my house a dark color? Will it make the inside of the house hotter?

Depends on your homes construction. Older homes might feel a bit hotter during the summer months. A dark paint might make your house siding expand more than usual by getting it hotter than it normally is now. This can split caulking and cause peeling of your exterior paint sooner. Choose very good sealants. Also you can check out the "vinyl safe colors" that many manufactures have now. These won't get as hot as some other colors.
