We have been spraying our house exterior but have been getting lots of orange peel on our trim etc. We played with the pressure , even thinned the paint with water about 20oz. to 2 1/2 gals.

Sounds like you are using a large tip or worn out tip and not moving fast enough for this volume. Try a smaller orifice size, example- instead of a 517 use a 515. You can go even smaller but there is a limit. Too small of a tip requires excessive thinning.
