Joint compound over wall tiles?

Would like to to put joint compound over wall tiles in kitchen. Can it be done?

I'm sure it can be done but I don't recommend it. It would be very difficult and time consuming to keep the drywall mud on the tile. To do it you will need to sand the tile, rough enough to feel the scratches. Plan on a lot of sanding. The tile will need priming with a very good primer before applying the drywall mud.

Much easier to just remove the tile, pop it off the wall, then prime and mud the surface.
