We oiled our new Merbau deck straight after being laid (advice from our builder). We have since been told that advice was wrong and the timber needs to bleed first. Will we have any problems due to our early oiling?

Some of the oil you used will ooze out of the wood for a while. The time needed to cure the wood will be extended, bleeding and oozing will take longer before stopping.

Let the wood 'bleed' and weather. After this process stops you will need to do a light sanding and wipe down with acetone, to open up the wood pores, before oiling.
