Paint like it used to be?

David Smith asked 10 years ago

Is there any paint on the market today that is strong and durable like lead paint was? I know you can no longer use lead paint but it was by far the best paint ever!

There is no regular type of paint on the market now that can do what lead paint did in the past. The closest that exists now would be an alkyd industrial enamel. Technically, a really good modern 100% acrylic can out perform an oil base in most situations.

One possibility is a 2-component polyurethane paint. This is the same stuff used on bridges, water towers (exterior) and industrial equipment. Very expensive and hard to get. Not a regular paint.
