Skylight tunnel paint peeling!

Anonymous asked 10 years ago

Painted our skylight tunnel last summer. First coat I used Kilz general purpose drywall sealer and then applied a ceiling paint. Five months later the paint (including the orig textured finish)is peeling away from the bare drywall. At the time of painting the tunnel was fairly warm from the summer heat. Can this have caused the paint to peel? What caused the peeling?

Thanks

Probably the time you painted did not have an effect on the paint peeling, but you are on the right track. When I see this issue it is generally associated with a high moisture area. Given the temperature variations in the skylight tunnel you will almost assuredly have high moisture situations there. Not certain how to accomplish in this area, but my suggestion would be to increase air flow in the tunnel.
