Stain Matching

Jerry asked 10 years ago

I built cabinet doors. I used a veneer plywood on 1 side of door insert and applied a veneer on the other side. Then I built the frame out of real maple. Everything is made of maple. I cannot get them to match.

Probably the veneer is lighter than the solid maple. The differences will require two different stains and some experimenting. This is typical when two different types of wood are used, solid vs veneer.

You will have to use a stain with more pigment on the lighter side. You could try a gel stain or heavily pigmented wiping stain.

Experiment on scrap pieces before applying the stains to the entire cabinet.
