Getting into trouble with my tables edging finish.

share

Found a great old table at a garage sale and began removing the old varnish and stain. The thick 1 inch edging removed easily with the remover but now I think it isn’t a wood edging. I tested an area to see if it would accept stain and it appears that it won’t. The tabletop is beautiful but how do I tie in the edge? The edging seems soft….What should I do?

  1. It's possible the stripper softened the edging. Rinse it well with water and let it dry. To add color use a gel stain that is close to the stain color used on the rest of the table. A good gel stain will stick to almost anything even plastics.
