My garage doors are all cedar, stain has faded in some areas. There also looks like a clear coat finish had been applied over the stain. How do I get the stain looking even. Is there a way to do this without having to refinish the whole door. If not how do you refinish rough cedar?
You need to refinish the whole door… sand lightly using a medium grade paper… then if you have the bare stained wood left, you can restain it but you need to use a DARKER Color stain this time…
If you can't remove the "clear coat finish" … then your best bet is to prime all using an exterior oil base wood primer… then finish coat with Sherwin Williams A-100 (use a flat finish)… Good Luck!
