Can you put latex over oil-based or vise versa on cupboard doors?

One Response

  1. You can put a latex paint over an oil based paint as long as the surface is clean, sanded lightly and primed before application of the paint. Oil base paint can be applied over latex, primed first, but it is best to just use a latex. Water based (latex) paints are usually softer and flexible while oil base paints cure to a hard film. There are specialized acrylic paints designed for trim and cabinets. These work very well. Consult with your local paint store and see what they offer.
