Oil vs Latex for Iron Rails

BARRY G asked 10 years ago

Which paint is best for exterior iron rails – Oil or Latex? Also, must you use the same type of paint for primer and topcoat, or can you mix these different types of paint?

Always use Oil for topcoat application… use an Oil Exterior Primer Sealer for a primer… you cannot mix these…

You could use an oil metal primer then a good acrylic top coat. Oil paint for the top coat is best but you could use an acrylic DTM, direct to metal, paint. If you choose an oil paint then go to a real paint store, not a hardware store, and get an industrial enamel.
