Painting Bay Windows

James Conlon asked 10 years ago

I am going to paint 2 bay windows (exterior) overlooking the front of the house. The previous white coats are cracked and need to be sanded down somewhat. Do I have to prime them first? I am going to paint them white again.

Yes, prime any areas where the paint has come off. If the old paint is a latex then additional priming isn't needed but for old oil base paint you need to prime the entire window. Remember, water based paints can not be applied over oil base paints without priming first.
