Painting oil based trim.

Anonymous asked 10 years ago

I am assuming my doors and closet trim was originally painted with oil base.. and then a semi gloss enamel painted over it…I can peel the semi gloss off few years later.

Question, can I just sand and repaint with semi gloss..or should I paint a primer over the oil base and then the semi gloss?

Just sand (lightly) to a firm edge where you have peeled the paint… then simply repaint all using an acrylic semi gloss paint…

Since the current paint is having problems I would prime with a quick drying oil base primer before painting. This is your only chance to do this right, after the new paint is applied priming won't do any good.
