Porch exterior stain.

Jim asked 10 years ago

I’m putting down a new porch floor, the porch is covered. I will use exterior stain semi or full color? Should I stain only the top so the bottom can breath? Or to stain the entire board. It just depends on the store I go to, and different contractors? Signed confused

You need to tell us what type of wood and flooring you have… even with a covered porch, you need to SEAL the wood on both sides to prevent rotting etc.

Stain by itself does nothing to protect the wood… after you stain the wood… use a porch & deck SEALER or better yet use a SPAR Varnish… GOOD LUCK!

Seal all sides if possible. A good decking stain will do the job. A poly porch-and-deck paint can be used for the top if you want extra abrasion protection.
