Re-painting or possibly staining a wooden deck.

share

I have a wooden deck that was painted by the previous owners. It doesn’t look like the paint is very thick and they didn’t even paint the whole thing. I would like to either re-paint or stain but don’t know what’s the best route. I’m going to power-wash the deck first and if the majority of the paint comes off I would consider staining, but if the paint doesn’t totally come off then I would just rather re-paint. If I choose to re-paint, do I need a primer and what kind of paint should I use?

  1. Pressure wash with care. Follow each board the full length to be certain you do not leave unsightly wash marks. After this, semi-transparent deck stains will give the best results.
