Please advise the best way to remove a 8 x 10 piece of damaged drywall. I want to somehow remove this piece and replace it.

Well there is the fun way and the boring way. Fun way: hammer, just mark off where you need to stop and hit no closer the 5 inches from that line or just use a razor knife and cut it out then pop it out. Make sure you end up with at least 1/2 inch of 2×4 on the sides and maybe even the top to apply the other <new> sheet.
