Restaining exterior rough cedar garage door.

share

My garage doors are rough cedar and they are not in terrible condition, so I would like to restain them while they are just beginning to need it. They receive the west sun. What preparation do I need to make before applying the new stain?

  1. Check out your local paint dealer for a wood brightening product. Be careful to read the label as some products do not do well on cedar. Allow to dry, in your area, overnight should be sufficient.

Hopefully while you were at your local paint dealer you asked for an appropriate coating for your door. Two coats minimum with no more than 14 months allowed to elapse before re-coating.
