Restaining Front Door

Jennifer B. asked 10 years ago

I had a handyman restain my front door. He did a light sanding of the entire door but heavily sanded a few areas that he said needed it. After he put the new stain and clear coat on the entire door I noticed the areas he heavily sanded were much lighter than the rest of the door. I asked him about it and he said after 2-4 weeks those spots will darken up and match the rest of the door. Is this right? It doesn’t sound right to me but I’m not a handyman.

No… go ahead and wait and see, but you'll find that no they will not darken up… next step is to contact him and insist that he Strip the whole door, sand it then restain and then varnish it with a Urethane Spar product…
