TSP, stripper or both?

I have wood cupboards in my kitchen, and I’ve decided that I’d like to redo them with a white wash finish. My question is, if I’m going to be using a stripper to remove the current finish, do I still need to start by washing with TSP? It has been a while since they’ve been properly scrubbed down, and they’ve got a bit of a build up on them.

No need to clean before using a stripper as long as the cabinets are reasonably clean, no major greasy areas or other contaminates. If the cabinets are excessively dirty then cleaning is a good idea. Surface contaminates can interfere with paint strippers, especially the environmental types.
