Restaining Help!

Anonymous asked 10 years ago

Our house is stained a medium brown, and we need to restain it. The problem is that the previous owners began to stain the FRONT of the house a reddish color, but did a few large patches and never completed the job. We are worried that stain applied over the red spots will look different than the rest of the house. Would using a stripper or sanding the red spots be a good idea in this situation?

Don't sand the spots. This would make the spots stand out when stained. You will need to use an exterior stain stripper if you plan on using a semi-transparent stain. Nothing is needed if you plan on using a solid colored stain. Solid color will cover everything.
