Latex over latex over oil?

Anonymous asked 10 years ago

I bought a house and the interior trim paint was chipping very badly. I presumed the previous owner had put what was obviously latex paint over oil paint without proper prep. So I just used a stripper on a door…it took off the first layer of paint quite well…and started taking off the second layer which also appears to be latex. My question is do I have to remove the previous layer of latex (which didn’t seem to have any problem before I put stripper on it) because I have now disturbed it with the stripper?

No you don't, just go ahead and repaint it using an acrylic paint (latex)…

After the trim is prepared I would go ahead and apply primer to make sure there won't be any problems in the future.
