Hi, I had an electrical fire a month ago. The restoration company said they will seal the immediate surrounding walls and retexture and paint the ceiling in the living room that had the damage. I asked them about the other walls (i.e. the hallway and the adjacent kitchen) but they say there is no need. My apartment is 1,000 square feet. The smoke was quite thick and reached the far back bedroom. If my clothing in my back closet had major smoke odor, does this suggest that I should demand sealing of drywall throughout my entire apartment?
Possibly, at the least all surfaces should be cleaned to remove any smoke particles that have settled. This includes walls, ceilings, floors, draperies, etc. Sealing and repainting might not be required to remove the smoke damage but a good cleaning should be included in the restoration.
